BLOGS >

I completely love the idea of blogging. I love the fact that blogging incorporates facts and opinions of certain topics. Blogging gives the opportunity to the reader to express the opinion. A newspaper does not really give the reader the opportunity to express their opinions about certain articles unless it is an article posted online. The writer is not able to get feedback about their article back unlike a blog post. Writers are able to know what topics people are interested in. Writers of blogs also get feedback on their writing style. I think I enjoy reading blogs because I think they are personal. Most newspaper articles are all facts, I like how blogs allows the writer to inform the reader of a certain topic while giving them their personal opinion of that particular topic. I find myself more interested in personal blogs than news blogs. I really enjoy seeing people’s blogs on Tumblr. Some of the blogs I come across on Tumblr are informative and others are entertainment blogs full of music and pictures. I do not believe that blogs on criminal investigations hold an important value. In my research I came across a few blogs that were dedicated to criminal investigations but I did not find a lot. I do not think they are that important because people rather hear just the facts of this particular topic, rather than the writer’s opinion.

Intro to Me...

My name is Angelica Young and I am a senior here at University of Maryland. My major is sociology and concentrating in organizations and institutions. Once I graduate I plan to attend graduate school to study criminology. I am interested in becoming a criminal investigator for a government agency.

Technology plays a role in my field of criminal investigations. The latest technology will make it easier to help catch criminals. Shows like CSI: Miami makes everything seem so cool and easy. Shows give off the perception that the technology they use will help solve a case in five minutes but in actuality that is not the case. While technology is constantly changing and improving we haven’t reached the technological advancement as shown in shows. The improving technology has made it easier for the criminal investigator and crime scene investigators. Over the years we have been able examine and analyze DNA found at the scene using technology. We are now able to trace blood and hair found on the crime scene back to the victim or the criminal. New technology today allows us to recreate crime scenes in order for us to get an understanding of what happened. In Virginia the police investigation team received scanners that create three dimensional models of crime scene and traffic scenes. This type of technology helps the investigator gather evidence that can be used in the court. Technology is constantly improving so who knows we may soon be able to solve crimes like the television shows we enjoy so much.
